On again, and off again…
this is an advertisement for at&t, the largest mobile provider in the united states. this was probably designed by a young marketing major intern and approved by an older marketing manager based on factors like relatability, trendiness, and what they perceived as humor. notice that the time is 4:20 (so funny), that the mobile phone pictured is drawn by hand (very trendy), that the conversation uses “text lingo” and is centered around a text message breakup (how relatable), and that the image is in an animated .gif format (look, we’re tech savvy too!).
someone at at&t, a corporation worth nearly 127 billion US dollars, was paid to come up with this design in order to appeal to tumblr’s userbase, someone else was paid to approve its design, and someone else was paid to post the content and monitor it. this was designed to get people to interact with the at&t brand so at&t could earn higher profits.
it got 51 notes prior to this reblog. tumblr currently has 173 million blogs.
